Imperial have been knocked out of the PGL Major in Antwerp after losing in the final qualification match for the Champions bracket.

Copenhagen Flames beat them to take the eighth and final spot in the Champions bracket of the Major.

This matchup was an interesting prospect. Imperial started their Legends Stage 0-2. Copenhagen Flames started their 2-0.

Yet somehow both teams ended up with 2-2 records.

Flames had three chances to book their pathway into the final bracket of the Major and they finally made it happen in their last attempt.

They had previously lost against Spirit and FaZe in their win-and-in matches. Flames will be relieved to have finally gotten the job done.

The match itself was a dominant one. Flames took it in two straight maps.

Inferno went their way with their Brazilian opponents only taking two rounds in the whole map.

Imperial managed to make the second map very competitive on Vertigo. A really tight back-and-forth map ended with the teams going to overtime.

The Brazilian forced a second overtime period as they vied to keep their tournament run alive.

A perfect terrorist side in the second OT meant that Flames were just one round away from securing their place in this weekend’s Champions bracket.

They made sure of it with another immediate round win, taking Vertigo 22-18.

Record setting Imperial

Imperial have set some really incredible viewership numbers in their run. They had over 1MILLION concurrent viewers when they took on Cloud9 on Monday (May 16).

Brazilian Twitch streamer Gaules held over 500k viewers alone during some of Imperial’s matches.

They can go home with their heads held high. They put on a show in the last two weeks, battling through Challengers and into the Legends Stage.

Flames now go through to the Champions bracket of the PGL Major in Antwerp. The bracket starts on Thursday (May 19).
