The LA Thieves have beaten FaZe 3-1 in Winners Round 1 at the New York Major.

Winning in NY is the first victory that Thieves have ever had over Atlanta. Prior to winning at Major 4, they were [0-8] against the current World Champions.

Thieves didn’t just win against FaZe either. The squad absolutely destroyed their opponents. Both Sam “Octane” Larew and Kenny “Kenny” Williams came up with huge numbers on their way to a victory.

Even with their numbers, it was Dylan “Envoy” Hannon who stole the show in the match’s curtain raiser.

The former OpTic player posted an astonishing 1.70 K/D in the Tuscan Hardpoint that set the tone for the rest of the series.

Search and Destroyed looked incredible for Thieves too. It is the one mode that FaZe still looked like they had complete control over in the Major 4 qualifiers.

But Thieves completely exposed Atlanta again in map two, taking another Tuscan 6-2.

The two teams then completed the trilogy of Tuscan maps with Control and FaZe had to battle right to the end of the fifth round to take a 3-2 map win.

It could have been done even sooner than it eventually was. FaZe almost seemed like they were trying their best to lose the map at times but Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris managed to come up with a huge two kills at the death to save the series… for now.

The series came to Berlin Hardpoint and LA Thieves really showed that they are nearly back to the Hardpoint quality that they showed at the start of the season.

Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson was 4/14 at one point in the map and finished off the map with a 0.50 K/D.

It typifies the entire series for FaZe, a lack of control on the map really led to their downfall.

They now drop down into what looks like the most stacked LR1 of any bracket of the year.

LA Thieves will go on to play against Toronto Ultra on Saturday.
