Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 team has announced a new look to their esports team. Their first signing for the new season is former Formula E: Accelerate driver Manuel Biancolilla.
He reached the Grand Final of Formula E’s Accelerate series last season and has previous experience in F1 Esports too.
He was very complimentary about Formula E’s Esports series in 2020.
“The level of competition in this series is the highest I’ve come across in rFactor 2,” he said.
“There are a lot of top drivers. The standard is top notch and right at the pinnacle of sim racing and motor racing esports. It’ll be really hard to beat all of them.”
Biancolilla has lots of experience in lots of different disciplines. He finished second in the 2020 Virtual Le Mans, representing Aston Martin then too.
Biancolilla will start his 2022 season with a race at Misano later today (April 6, 2022).
The first event of the season will be Aston Martin’s first appearance in the SRO Esports event. Biancolilla will race in all five races for the team.
The series will then go to Zandvoort, the Nurburgring, the Hungaroring and finally Monza.
SRO have revised the series this season in order to level off the playing field and it now features a wealth of leading sports car manufacturers.
Assetto Corsa Competizione has added new traditional sportscar racing features, including performance balancing.
The new race format will consist of two 25-minute practice sessions, followed by a 15-minute qualifying. Races will last an hour. Races will include a mandatory pitstop.
Aston Martin say that there will be more announcements to come in the next few weeks.
