NYSL have reverse swept Minnesota Rokkr, keeping their dream of qualifying for Champs alive.
The series becomes the first that the New York team have won at LAN, besides the Pro-Am this season.
New York looked down and out after two maps. They were obliterated on Bocage Hardpoint to get things started. Eli “Standy” Bentz and Dillon “Attach” Price ran the show in the first map of the series.
Rokkr outslayed New York by 32 kills over the course of the curtain raiser. New York looked shook by the atmosphere of the crowd. That kind of thing has happened on a number of occasions this season, with home teams being unable to deal with the expectation of the crowd immediately.
It looked like it was going to be writing on the wall for New York at the end of map two. Standy put in one of the best Search and Destroy performances of the year on Tuscan. The young star managed to go the entire map without dying, ending with a 10/0 statline.
NYSL then managed to bounce back in the second half of the series. They managed to come into the Berlin with confidence and get themselves on the board with a quick 3-0 win.
Rokkr actually broke a record during the Berlin Control. They became the first team this season to capture the A point and then go on to lose a round of Control.
NY took a fairly comfortable Tuscan Hardpoint to take the series all the way to map five. In doing so, it became the 11th of the last 12 CDL series to go the distance.
Then they secured their first reverse sweep of the season by racing out to a strong lead. Rokkr threatened to come back after winning a round at 5-3 down but it wasn’t enough.
New York will now place at least T6 at Major 4. One more series win, against Florida on Saturday, and they will be incredibly close to securing a place at Champs.
Rokkr drop down to the lower bracket and will play against OpTic tomorrow (July 15).
