The Ricochet kernel-level anti-cheat system has finally gone live in Call of Duty: Vanguard.
Activision’s anti-cheat software has already been active in Warzone for some time but is now also in action in Vanguard.
The news comes in the wake of multiple high-profile cases of players in the Top 250 using cheats.
“pplehx” was second on the ladder when he was found to be cheating. He was only caught out due to his stream glitching and showing red boxes on the screen.
Activision released a statement alongside the announcement in order to give players an idea of what has been done.
The statement said: “Today, the PC kernel-level anti-cheat security driver from #TeamRICOCHET will release globally for Call of Duty®: Vanguard.
“The global release represents all upgrades made to the driver since it was first made available for Call of Duty®: Warzone™, in addition to new updates to anti-cheat security arriving first for Vanguard.”
The new updates to the driver will include a “cloaking” feature.
It will make non-cheaters invisible to suspected cheaters in both Vanguard and Warzone.
Activision have also announced that another 54,000 accounts have been banned since their last update.
Some fans have wondered as to why players have been disappearing from the leaderboard despite appearing legit.
Activision clarified: “We’ve seen conversation within the community about how cheating may impact global leaderboards and want to make it clear.
“If someone is banned for cheating, they will be deleted from the leaderboard in Vanguard and/or Warzone.”
Cheating has been a huge point of contention in the Call of Duty community since most of the competition moved online as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
NukeJ was a huge example during Cold War and many have been outed since.
aliiszn’s rise to the top of the Challengers scene was halted when he was found to be cheating.
There is no place for cheaters in any competitive video game. Hopefully Ricochet will have a big impact on Vanguard.
That will allow players to rest easy knowing that they’re not coming up against cheaters.
