Team Spirit have qualified for the Champions bracket at the PGL Major in Antwerp. They are the first team to do so.
They managed to secure their passage through to the next stage of the event after beating Copenhagen Flames in a back-and-forth contest.
Both teams won their chosen maps. Spirit kept it close through the first half of Vertigo, with just one round in it at the swap.
Flames then took control, taking eight of 11 rounds following the change in order to take the lead in the series with a 16-10 map win.
Spirit came roaring back into the series in map two. They managed to go one better than their opponents did and secured a 16-8 win. It ended up being another fantastic post-swap performance from a winning team.
The third and final map of the series was dominant. Spirit ran out to a 10-1 from the off.
Copenhagen Flames did everything they could to battle back into the map, taking a few rounds on their way but it wasn’t enough.
They clawed their way back to 11-6 but once again Spirit turned the screw and managed to come away with the victory and qualification to the bracket stage of the tournament.
Flames aren’t eliminated yet and will get another two chances of qualifying for the Champions bracket. The Legends Stage continues through to Tuesday.
Elsewhere in the Swiss format, Team Vitality managed to eliminate Team Liquid from the competition.
They swept the US team in order to send them home from the Major.
Their elimination comes after squeaking their way into the Legends Stage of the event.
They did manage to beat Astralis on their way but then failed to win a single map in the Legends portion of the competition.
Liquid are the first team to be eliminated from the PGL Major in the Legends Stage. They’ll be joined by the loser of Bad News Eagles vs Imperial later on today (May 15).
