Twitch will be removing the ability to see your Friends List as of May 25, 2022.

The company has stated that low engagement is the reasoning behind closing the feature.

The Twitch statement said: “We launched Friends to help viewers connect with one another , similar to the connections between creators and viewers.

“Today we see the best viewer-to-viewer connections on Twitch happen when we experience live moments together.”

The change will apparently allow for more resources to be put into developing other aspects of Twitch.

The statement continued: “Very few viewers [are] regularly using Friends to actively connect with each other.

“By deprecating this feature, we are able to further focus on building connections among communities while streamers are live.”

The feature will be removed from the mobile app first. Twitch is taking away Friends from mobile and tablets first, on May 16.

Nine days later, May 25, is the date that the Friends feature will completely cease to exist.

You won’t be able to see which of your friends are live on the platform anymore either.

If you block whispers from strangers in your Twitch privacy settings, then existing friends lose the ability to send you whispers.

Following your friends’ accounts on the platform will make them no long be considered strangers.

One positive from the change is that it will hopefully see a decrease in follow/view-botting on the site.

Typically, they would have used the feature to join each other en mass.
